Riverside Win 2-0 in final Hudson Cup Match.

Northern Rangers were defeated 2-0 in the final Hudson cup match of the 2010 preseason tournament.

p1110177 (Small)Rangers had lost Bremner from the side that defeated City 6-0, but regained the services of Michael Townsend.

An even first half took place, with both sides enjoying the cooler conditions.  Both sides created good goal scoring chances, and the keepers at either end had to work hard to keep their sheets clean to the half time break.

Rangers lacked the intensity in this game that they had shown against City, not quiet showing the desire to be there, which is needed against a young fast side like Riverside.

Hingston almost put Rangers ahead in the last minutes of the second half when he rose to meet a corner at the far post, but couldn’t quiet get the ball down toward goal.

The sides went into half time locked at 0-0.

Early in the first half Rangers looked much improved, but some slow defensive reactions, allowed Will Guy to capitalise on a half chance.

Again Rangers didn’t respond well, and failed to regain control of the game.

p1110151 (Small)Whilst there were some great passages of play and good scoring opportunities created, Rangers were just not hungry enough in front of goal.

Riverside scored their second goal in the last 5 minutes of play, with Whitemore pushing the midfield up to try and find an equalizer, Riverside shot from distance against a sparse defense, and some how squeezed the chance in for 2-0.

A reasonable Hudson cup campaign considering the new blood Whitemore and Ludby have unleashed and introduced to senior football, and the injuries the club has sustained early in the season.  Still to come into the squad is Rohan Pooley and more regular appearances from Paul Bremner, Declan Cuschieri and Gareth Otley.

Rangers will now have a week off before the season opener against Prospect Knights at Harley Parade in two weeks time.
